Teacher's Prayer

My lesson begins when I walk in the room,
By the smile or the frown on my face.
I teach self-control by the life that I live,
Giving in to frustration or grace.
My life teaches more than my words ever do,
And my face is read more than a book.
My degree means nothing to those seeing eyes,
That respond deep inside to a look.
Acceptance, rejection, they get it from me;
From my countenance or my voice.
Depending upon my mood each day,
Their hearts will sink or rejoice.
Jesus, remind me that You’re ever near,
Evaluating each day.
Keep me from failing these children you love,
Teach me to teach, I pray!
